The final day of qualification at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart started off perfectly from a German perspective.
Dustin Brown beat Frenchman Gregoire Barrere 6-2, 7-6(2) to advance to the main draw of the 754,540 Euro ATP tournament. Brown converted two of his four break points in the first set while never facing one himself. The tide turned in the second set, but Brown was able to serve all of the three break points he faced. In the tie-break it was an easy 7-2 win for the German.
Also in the main draw are Croatian Viktor Galovic (6-4, 2-6, 6-4 against Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine) and Australian Alexei Popyrin (6-3, 7-5 against Italian Matteo Viola). The final match of the qualification between Kazakh Alexander Bublik and Spaniard Feliciano Lopez had to be delayed due to rain with Lopez leading 7-5.
Also, there was an exhibition match between Mike and Bob Bryan (USA) and the German pair of Tommy Haas and Mischa Zverev, which the Americans won 7-5. Afterwards, the Bryan brothers were already looking forward to the main draw: “We love it here in Stuttgart, the conditions here are simply perfect.”
