Alexander Zverev joins the action
On Thursday, the MercedesCup at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof will see its next highlight, when Alexander Zverev, the tournament’s number 1, joins the action (third game, not before 3pm).
He will face another German as his opponent: Dustin Brown. The 34-year old has already three wins in Stuttgart, coming through qualification. Zverev is warned: “It’s a difficult draw, especially when you haven’t had a match on grass before.” Zverev also knows that the match has the potential to be an absolute crowd pleaser: “This is a great match for the fans and the tournament.”
The day opens at 11 am with the match between Gael Monfils (FRA/5) and Denis Kudla (USA), followed by Matteo Berrettini (ITA) against Karen Khachanov. The Russian, the number 2 seed, will play his first match on grass of the season.
To finish the day, Canada’s shooting star Felix Auger-Aliassime (7) will take on French veteran Gilles Simon.
