Local hero Dustin Brown has reached the second and final round of the qualification at the MercedesCup in Stuttgart (754,540 total financial commitment).

The 34-year old from Winsen beat no. 3 seed Denis Istomin (UZB) 7-5, 6-4. Brown will meet Frenchman Gregoire Barrere on Sunday for a spot in the main draw. The two will start the action at Stuttgart’s TC Weissenhof at 11 am on the Centercourt.

The second German in the qualification, Tim Pütz, lost to Feliciano Lopez in two sets. The Spaniard, runner-up in 2017 in Stuttgart, won 7-6(1), 7-5 to advance to the second round, where he will face Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan. Bublik had no problems eliminating Japan’s Hiromi Moriya 6-0, 6-3.

The other two matches for a spot in the main draw are Viktor Gaolvic (CRO) – Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR) and Matteo Viola (ITA/ALT) – Alexei Popyrin (AUS).
