Alexander Zverev & Nick Kyrgios to play at the MercedesCup!
Great present for all tennis fans! After Germany’s number 1, Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios has also committed to playing at this year’s MercedesCup from 6-14 June 2020 at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof. The 24-year old has won the ATP 500 tournaments in Acapulco and Washington in 2019. In 2018, Kyrgios took Roger Federer to the brink of elimination in the MercedesCup's semi-finals, only having to concede the match in the tie-break of the third set.
Federer about the highly-skilled tennis player and “enfant terrible” Nick Kyrgios: “You never know which Nick Kyrgios will show up for a match!” During his successful tournament run last year it was more often the “ingenious Krygios” who showed up. In Acapulco he beat Spanish top-star Rafael Nadal in the round of the last sixteen, while eliminating the later ATP world champion Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) in the semis and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of Washington.
“We are very happy to announce the commitment of Nick Kyrgios for the MercedesCup 2020 after having already signed Alexander Zverev. They are both dazzling personalities on the ATP tour who will be among the tournament favorites with their variable game on grass courts”, said tournament director Edwin Weindorfer.
