On Wednesday evening the MercedesCup entertained its stars at the traditional players’ party.
This year, the players were invited to the traditional restaurant “zum Heurigen”. There, the players and their entourage could regale themselves with traditional delicacies.
The diversion from their usual grind was naturally welcomed by the players: “That was a great dinner. It’s nice to see something different than just the tennis courts and the hotel”, said Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who went on to gush about his stay at the MercedesCup: “I love Germany – and the German cuisine.”
The players got the local “Maultaschen” served, which were also enjoyed by local hero Mischa Zverev.
Grigor Dimitrov also loved the change in his daily routine: “It’s nice to meet the other players. I love the local cuisine. We travel all around the world and it’s great to try something new wherever you go.”
After having lost his second round match just hours before, youngster Yannick Hanfmann was a bit uncertain about how to approach the event in the evening, but in the end decided to take it in stride: “Maybe I can enjoy it more with my buddies, now that I don’t have to worry about having to play in the next round.”
