German doubles victory on MercedesCup’s home soil
The final day of this year’s MercedesCup at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof started off perfectly from a German point of view: The pair of Petzschner/Puetz won against the Swedish-polish pair of Lindstedt/Matkowski 7-6(5), 6-3.
In the first set neither pair was willing to concede even a single break point, thus the tiebreak had to decide and the Germans took it 7-5. This completely turned in the second set as Petzschner/Puetz sprung out to a quick 3-0 lead on a break and never looked back after that. After 83 minutes Petzschner served out the match with a love-game.
With the win, the German duo earned 35,500 Euro prize-money and 250 points for the world rankings. After Rafael Nadal in the singles, Philipp Peztschner in the doubles is now only the second player to win the MercedesCup on clay as well as on grass.
