Federer electrifies the masses

Stuttgart,

At High Noon sharp on Sunday Switzerland’s tennis superstar arrived at the MercedesCup at Stuttgart’s TC Weissenhof.

Even before Roger Federer hit a single ball, all eyes (media as well as fans) were on the 18-times Grand Slam winner. Casually he walked the tournament area – in the midst of hundreds of gaping fans.

After Federer had skipped the complete clay court season, he is now targeting his biggest goal of the season: again winning in Wimbledon. The MercedesCup in Stuttgart is his first step in his preparation. Nevertheless, Federer isn’t taking the tournament lightly. He has, however, never won in Stuttgart before and has sworn that this will change this year.

In the early afternoon, Federer could first be seen on the court, as he held a public practice together with Germany’s star Tommy Haas. Naturally, no fan wanted to miss this occasion to see the superstar up close.

Federer will start his bid for the tournament title on Wednesday after having a bye in the first round. There he could potentially face his friend Tommy Haas again, if the German is able to oust Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round.
