The MercedesCup kicks off on Monday with the first five singles matches of the main draw. And there are also no less than five Germans joining the action on this first day of the tournament.
At 11 am the main draw starts with a match between Jan-Lennard Struff, who last year had an epic fight with the later tournament winner Lucas Pouille, and German youngster Rudolf Molleker. Molleker is only 17 years old, ranked no. 301 in the world and one of the big hopes of German tennis. Thanks to a wild card he will make his debut in the MercedesCup’s main event.
And that’s not all! Directly after that, veteran Florian Mayer will take on local hero Yannick Maden, who got into the main draw thanks to a wild card. The fifth German, who will play on Monday, is Mischa Zverev. He will take on Russian qualifier Mikhail Youzhny (not before 3 am).
To end the day, the first seeded player will start his campaign for this year’s Stuttgart title: Canadian youngster Denis Shapovalov (6) will face Indian qualifier Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
The only match scheduled for the Mercedes Court on Monday is Guido Pella (ARG) against John Millman (AUS). This match will not start before 2 pm. Before that, two doubles matches are on the schedule.
