Statement regarding postponement of the French Open

Stuttgart,

The e|motion group, organizer of the MercedesCup in Stuttgart, was surprised by the French Open’s announcement to postpone the Grand Slam tournament in Paris for a week and now hold it from 30th of May to 13th of June, as the organizers of the French Open presented the ATP and its tour board with a fait accompli. The postponement means that there will be an overlap with the grass court tournament at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof. The MercedesCup is scheduled from 5th to 13th of June 2021. In the coming days, the organizers of the MercedesCup will reassess the situation together with the ATP, the TC Weissenhof and their partners and sponsors.

“I must start by saying that we have accomplished all the requirements to hold this year’s edition of the MeredesCup. The grass courts at the TC Weissenhof are in splendid condition and ready for play shortly. Due to the Corona pandemic we constantly face new challenges, while the sport events industry has to show great flexibility anyway in these times. We nevertheless want to stick to our scheduled date and kick-off the grass court season from 5th to 13th of June”, says Edwin Weindorfer, tournament director of the MercedesCup and CEO of the e|motion group.
