It’s the day of the semifinals at the MercedesCup. German fans still have someone to cheer for as Jan-Lennard Struff will face Italian Matteo Berrettini in the fight for a spot in the final. The Italian, currently no. 30 in the world, is a tough draw as the the 23-year old has yet to face a single break point in this tournament. It will be Struff’s seventh ATP Tour semifinal, but the 29-year old German still has to make it through to his first final on this level. It will be the first duel between these two, the match will start at 1 pm.
Auger-Aliassime has one heck of a week behind him. Playing his first professional grass court tournament, the 18-year old Canadian has already reached the semifinal after a tough 3-set win over German fan-favorite Dustin Brown. The world’s no. 21 has matched a record set 20 years ago by Australian Lleyton Hewitt as the youngest player reaching semifinals on three different surfaces in the same year.
He will face a fellow countryman in Milos Raonic. By beating the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics on Friday in straight sets he set up an all-Canadian clash in the semis (not before 3 pm).
The day at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof, however, starts already off at 11 am with the final doubles semis between Rohan Bopanna (IND)/Denis Shapovalov (CAN) and Nick Kyrgios (AUS)/Matt Reid (AUS).
